An Easy Way to find and Adopt your Perfect Pet

An Easy Way to find and Adopt your Perfect Pet

I strongly believe in adopting cats and dogs rather than going to breeders.

There is already so many cats and dogs on this planet, and so many without homes who are often ignored in favor of that pedigree puppy.

Don't get me wrong pedigrees are great for so many reasons - but lets not forget the abandoned animals.

Millions are put down every year.

This web site is great, it has the most fantastic search engine, and it covers the US and Canada.

Just add:

The type of animal: dog, cat, bird, Reptile, pig...
Type of Breed: type something or leave blank
Age: Baby, young, adult, senior
Size: Small to Extra large
Gender: (M, F, Both)
And....
Then enter your Zip code or state or province.

The site will list all of your matches! There are photographs, descriptions and any key information.

In the link is a beautiful border collie mix they have called Artie.

Helen, It's You!

Guess good food and a love of animals go together! Would love to see a picture of her! Hadn't realised that you have the same problem with "doggies in the window also" I feel like launching a global campaign, I wonder if your dog was "molly coddled" ie; the owners loved her but couldn't afford to keep her in their eyes, good for you anyway, thank goodness, All our inheritance (not much probably after the credit crunch) is going to various animal homes. We don't have children so we will be happy knowing we've done some good!

Crufts pedigree or Abandoned Mix Bread

Thank you! Our dog is also a rescue, arriving at our home near middle aged, she is a cross bread. She was found as a stray wandering streets and massively over weight (which is unusual for a stray, it makes me wonder just how fat she was before she was dumped). I can't for the life of me work out why she was abandoned. She is very bright, she is very loving and extremely well behaved in the home. Outside she is nervous as soon as we meet anything living, whether its a person, a dog or even a chipmunk she can get very upset and stressed. She was so excited on our early walks she was like a puppy on her first trip out. Its taking a lot of work to get her calm outside, I suspect she was a dog that was never walked. I suspect who ever owned her, owned her for themselves, a dog to cuddle and share the contents of the fridge with. Your dog looks very cute and comfortable, such a small photograph though! Congrats on adopting her. There are also puppies for sale in pet shops here in Canada, it makes me feel quite sick. There are a lot of non-government run charity shelters struggling for survival as to meet the standards to re-home the dogs they typically run at a huge loss. They have to be de wormed, neutered, and have all their injections done and most of these shelters are no-kill and often keep animals for years and years. I agree with you about Crufts - good for you! there is a show I have recorded and not watched yet that deals with the selective breading of dogs, I saw a few minutes of it and it mentioned that bull dogs are now being bred to be so wide that they often have to be delivered by cesarean section being too wide to make it through their mothers birth canal... absolutely disgraceful. I am keen to promote people taking in rescue dogs and cross breads, they are healthier, happier and more stable dogs – they are unique. It all makes me so angry, that we tread animals with such contempt while they treat us with such loyalty and love. Check out my Xomba Homepage

Worthwhile article..

Thank you so much for posting this. We live in Spain and have adopted a Shar Pei cross,(picture aka!) We found her on the beach near to where we live in Estepona. She'd been abandoned and was probably no older than 1 year. In Spain we have pet shops that display "puppy dogs for sale in the windows" believe it or not. As many people return to the UK from living in Spain due to the high cost of living here, many animals are now abandoned and our local rescue centre, ADANA, have stated that they are now unable to cope with the amount of abandoned animals left at their door every day. Another byproduct of the credit crunch. I could talk for hours and hours about the importance of adopting animals as opposed to buying one from a pet shop or breeder. I recently wrote a letter to the Queen (UK) to petition against "Crufts dog show" and the way that so called "breeders" show their "prize" breeds displaying physical attributes that are simply not akin to the origin of the breed. For example, a Cocker Spaniel had been over-bred to such an extent that it's brain had exceeded the normal size and was causing real pain and suffering to the animal. This was infact a "show winner" at (or so I believe) Crufts. The methods used are quite unethical and thankfully, we managed to persuade Pedigree, a major UK brand of pet food and pet related products to withdraw from the show as a sponsor. Keep up the good work, yo have my whole and full support, well done you!

Artie

http://www.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=13103531 I just went back to check on Artie and he has been adopted... great news, not only for Artie but because now this shelter has one more place to save another animal. Check out my Xomba Homepage
