The Glycemic Index gives a ranking to foods containing carbohydrates, measuring the amount of blood sugar they cause to increase compared to glucose.

You have to watch out for foods with a high Glycemic Index, while remembering always to maintain a balanced diet.

Low Glycemic Index foods include skim milk, plain yogurt, soy drinks, fruits like apples, plums and oranges, sweet potato, oat bran and lentils.

Medium Glycemic Index foods include banana, pineapple, new potato, oatmeal, green pea soup, brown rice , whole wheat and rye bread.

High Glycemic Index foods include watermelon, dried dates, instant mashed potato, corn flakes and french fries.
