Eiffel Tower Story
Eiffel Tower Story
"Oui?" answered John at the french question "How are you?" for the third time. The lady just looked confused and walked away holding her coat tightly wrapped around her. Starting a new life in France would be hard at this rate. It was winter so their was still a little snow on the roof of the boat. So he just sat there by himself thinking, thinking about this new job he would have as a construction worker. He reminisced about when he was a child building towers with wooden blocks. It's what he loved and always had wanted to do. It doesn't seem like the best paying job or the easiest but it's what he loved so he stuck with it. Luckily his apartment was nearby to the building he was helping to construct. When the boat came into port John looked for a street sign to tell him the way to his apartment. But his french being the state it was he could not read any signs. He eventually attempted to ask a man by repeating the name of where he needed to go.
"Paris?"
"Paris?"
The man pointed in a direction, said "Pari" and briskly walked away. John decided his best bet would be to keep heading that direction until he found something or someone he could get more information from. He'd walked through the snow for just a few minutes when he saw a taxi and quickly got in. He said once again "Paris" and the taxi driver said something along the lines of "which street would you like to go to?" in french and John, bewildered, just said "I want to go to Paris. I have an apartment on Le Flerona Street."
"Le Flerona?" "Uh, oui." He sat in the taxi as it sped along the icy roads, rubbing his hands for warmth. The taxi was fairly warm but he was still chilly. The taxi stopped at his street but he didn't want to get out. It was freezing out there. But he had to so he gave the driver some money and jumped out. He found his building quickly because in the letter from the english-speaking tenant he said it had black gates and a large flower patch. There was only one building with black gates on the street so he went up to the door knocked and waited for the tenant. As he waited he stared around and failed to see a large flower patch. But then he saw it and it wasn't large nor healthy the temperature had almost killed it completely.
He sat on his bed and just stared out the window for hours. The snow was sitting gently on the rooftops and in the distance he saw a structures. A sort of pyramid which towered above all else. It wasn't finished yet though, part of the top was missing. His mouth open, he dreamt of building that, being a part of the making of that, but for now he'd just work on his own small building tommorrow.
The next day he hired a car from the tenant and drove to his work. It was surprisingly close to the structure he'd seen yesterday. He'd work on his building and everyday dream about the brilliant architectual masterpiece. Then once he'd finally finished working on his he decide to drive over to this other building to see it from up-close. He couldn't find a place to park his little blue car so he went around the back in the corner. He then hurried round corners. He couldn't wait. He noticed a crowd of people over somewhere to his left but he didn't care, he just wanted to see this. He dashed through the snow and found it. His jaw dropped as he looked slowly up the tower. Just when he was about to look around to see if he could get a job to help finish it he saw a ladder. How could he not climb up a little bit? He walked along one of the metal horizontal supports some 4 metres in the air delighted at this marvel. But he was looking up and didn't see where he was walking and soon slipped. He was on his back in the snow when the massive crowd all gathered around him. They hadn't named this structure yet and thought it would be great if this man named it.
"What should we name the tower?" said one man in french.
John was absolutely bewildered and thought they would be wondering what happened so naturally he said, "I fell"
They all screamed out "Eifell!" and that was what it was called to this day.
