Elite Marathoner Ryan Shay died within 10 miles

Ryan Shay, an elite distance runner was attempting to qualify for this year 2008 Beijing Olympics. The qualifying trial was a 25 mile race through central park. Ryan Shay experienced a fatal collapse between miles 9 and 10 near East 75th Street. Ryan Shay's wife and family all met up at Lenox Hill Hospital.< p>

He collapsed at the 5 1/2 mile mark, as the article says. The marathon is 26.2 miles.
