Email Scam: Universal ATM Card (Mastercard in this case) and Fedex Express delivery

This scam comes in many variations, but the entire scam revolves around collecting a relatively small, but bogus security fee by convincing the victim that they will receive something worth hundreds or thousands or even millions of dollars.

These scammers always use names like Mastercard and Fedex to lend credibility to their scams. They will even use the corporate names in email addresses to seem more official. This variation of the scam email uses the email address fedex.customerrelations@w.cn which might look like an official email address to someone who is inexperienced in using computers and internet. In reality, this type of email address can be set up by anyone with a domain or using many free email accounts. It would take only a few minutes to set up an email address with a free email service.

Things to look out for:

1. No subject line in the email

2. Generic greeting such as "Dear Friend" or "Valued Customer"

3. Misspellings throughout and poor grammar

4. Requests for any type of payment before delivery

5. email addresses or website addresses that are not affiliated with the organizations or businesses mentioned in the email.

6. Any offer to send you hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars out of the blue!

Below is a verbatim copy of one of these email scam messages I received. I have left all email addresses, tracking numbers, names and phone numbers intact. Just be aware that THESE ARE ALL BOGUS! Contacting them and/or supplying then with any personal information is NOT recommended. You do so at your own risk and put yourself at risk of becoming a victim of identity theft or fraud by releasing any of your personal information to scammers.

I just want to inform you that I have packaged and deposited your UNIVERSAL ATM MASTERCARD worth $800,000,00 USD with Fedex Express to deliver it to you. Contact the delivery officer with the below informations and reconfirm your correct address:

Also note that Fedex Services do not know the content of the parcel,I registered it as an African magazine,they do not know it contains UNIVERSAL ATM MASTERCARD inside. The ATM MASTERCARD has pin number 8876.

Please make sure the information is complete as they promised that once they receive their security safe keeping fee within 2 to 3 working days the magazine will arrived your door step according to the shipment officer, and Also ask them on how you are to make the payment for the security fee to them so they can effect immedaite delivery on your parcel
