Emma Snowsill of Australia Wins Women's Olympic Triathlon
posted August 18, 2008 - 1:28amAustralian Emma Snowsill captured the gold medal in the women's triathlon at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Her winning time of 1:58:27.66 was a little over a minute better than the silver medalist, Vanessa Fernandes of Portugal.

Snowsill make a remarkable recovery in the running portion of the race; she was in fifth place coming out of the transition from bike to run.
The women's Olympic triathlon consisted of a 1.5 kilometer swim, a 40 kilometer bike ride, and a 10 kilometer run.
Fifty-one athletes started the Olympic triathlon; there were 45 finishers.
