End of the World - Dec 21, 2012 - doomsday?

Am not sure how many have heard about this one, but apparently the world is going to end on Dec 21, 2012 - that's according to the Mayans. The Mayans were a highly developed ancient civilization that lived in what is now Mexico and Central America. The Mayans had a fascination for astrology. They studied the celestial bodies in quite some depth, probably because they thought the planets influenced the way they live on Earth.

Well, anyhow, the Mayans created something fantastic. A calender (3 calenders actually) - quite complex but apparently very accurate. In fact, some researches claim that the Mayan calender is more accurate than our present-day calenders. Probably that's why we should take them seriously.

Well, coming to the point, supposedly the Mayan calender ends on December 21, 2012. Nothing beyond that!!! Nobody knows for sure - why?? Now, some researchers believe that on that date, i.e. December 21, 2012, for the first time in about 26,000 years, there will be a unique celestial alignment. Apparently, "the Sun rises to conjunct the intersection of the Milky Way and the plane of the ecliptic, describing in the sky a great cross of stars and planets."

Now, some observers believe that this alignment with the "heart of the galaxy in 2012 will open a channel for cosmic energy to flow through the earth, cleansing it and all that dwells upon it, raising all to a higher level of vibration." Well, some talk of the poles of the earth shifting on this date and some scientists say that the process of the shifting of poles is real and possibly happening. So, probably this unique alignment would cause some gravitational reaction on the Earth!!

Well, who know really what would happen on December 21, 2012, but I sure hope it just pasess off without anything significant!!!

End of the world

I'm not sure what Publius is referring to, but I did find some info on the magnetic poles of the earth reversing, from NASA. This seems different from what he's talking about. NASA's site mentions that "Consecutive reversals are spaced 5 thousand years to 50 million years apart." http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2001/ast15feb_1.htm

Great Info~

Publius, I love the information gave. I also agree that the world will most likely will not end in 2012 or anytime in my life time. I can't say that I as the date approaches I won't be thinking about "what if". Maybe that is a good thing. Maybe I will take life less seriously, give extra hugs around that time, tell people that I love them. There is no harm in that. I won't be frantic or preaching the end of the world (though many others will I am sure). I have to say that I am looking forward to the astrological events!! Angel RobinetteDesign.com

I Believe you

And...I always wondered about "The Age of Aquarius" too, never liked that song and now that you have mentioned it,it's stuck in my head lol. I don't like to believe those "doomsday" conspiracies/prophecies, I think it is just better to hope for a bright future and live each moment, rather than fall into the gloom of thinking its all just going to end anyway. I mean really, none of us is getting out alive so why get all antsy about the world ending on a certain date. Even if it were true, theres no point in getting all upset now, who knows what could happen between now and then...remember all the hullaballoo about y2k? It was nothing, but everybody sure got worked up about it - I seem to recall even mass suicide around that time. Carazy! Get Paid $$$ to Write! On the other hand

The people I leave behind can use the stamps; of course they might end up fighting over them. Maybe I could make it clear who should get the unused stamps. Awww crap, I'll be thinking about who gets the stamps all day! :( ↑ Grab this Headline Animator Join Xomba

I'm not sure why it's such a

I'm not sure why it's such a bad thing to agree with me or to acknowledge that I can be right. There is lots of truth to what I write, it just so happens that many people can't or refuse to recognize it. Maybe by recognizing it, your world may end...but that could be a good thing. If that's the case, then I will just say this: Welcome to my world. You might just enjoy it. *If you're interested in reading my articles, Click Here.

Well

I think I'll just buy them in small sheets from now and, anyway. You just never know when you're number is up.

mercy

dont worry kj the world is not ending on Dec. 21 2012 you can buy your stamps. http://www.xomba.com/user/adrienne

I'm playing it safe

Just in case this prediction comes true, I am going to stop buying large rolls of stamps some weeks before Dec 21, 2012, and just buy them one at a time as I need them. It's always better to be safe than sorry, I say. I hate the thought of wasting money on postage I'll never use. :) ↑ Grab this Headline Animator Join Xomba

+1 Maybe

Just for fun: "Maybe the guys making the calender had completed it up until that date and then their civilization suddenly ended. Hence the calender just stops."
