On Friday, July 20th, Evangelist Tammy Faye lost her battle with colon cancer. Tammy Faye had battled cancer since 1996 and recently the cancer spread to her lungs. She died at her home near Kansas City, Missouri. She was 65 years old. A family service was held on Saturday in a private cemetery.

In her lifetime Tammy Faye and her husband,Jim, built a multimillion-dollar evangelism empire which collapsed. Jim was convicted in 1989 of 24 fraud and conspiracy counts and sentenced to 45 years. The sentence was later reduced and he was released in 1994. Tammy Faye was not convicted in the crimes.
