Ever Wonder Where All That Cash You Are Spending on Over-Priced Gas is Ending Up? World's First Rotating Skyscraper in Dubai
If you wanted to know where some of the dollars you are spending on high-priced gas are going - Apparently, Dubai is building a rotatating skyscraper with penthouse apartments selling for as much as $38.7 million each (http://www.lubbockonline.com/stories/062708/bus_296146408.shtml).
That is totally obscene - Nobody has a right to live like that with all of the World's problems (Just pick one - I know that each of us has our "crisis of choice" that could use a few million dollar donations to make the World a better place).
Oh, and the article contains a "major" error (if you are a geek). The article states, "The spinning floors, hung like rings around an immobile cement core, would offer residents a constantly changing view of the Persian Gulf and the city's futuristic skyline”.
Cement does not have the compressive strength to support building construction (instead “concrete” is used in construction). Cement is an ingredient of concrete. The ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) defines concrete as a mixture containing cement, water, and mineral aggregates with or without the inclusion of other constituents such as air-entraining agents, coloring pigments, and water repellents.
