Everyone Needs a Creative Outlet. What's Yours?

Everyone Needs a Creative Outlet. What's Yours?

I enjoy writing, often, which is probably why I'm here on Xomba. But, I have other things that I enjoy doing as well, to express myself.

I'm not very good at drawing, honestly I could mess up stick people! But, I do enjoy painting. It's obviously more on the abstract side, but it's still painting. I've messed about with oil pastels, dry pastels, even blending marker with colored pencil.

One of my favorite things to do, is to make sculptures out of odd items. They're not very big sculptures, but I enjoy taking something seemingly useless and making it pretty and functional, as well as an expression of self.

Later this year, I plan on fencing in my back yard, using wooden fence posts for the frame, and plywood for the actual fence. I decided on that specifically so that I could paint a mural on the plywood, making the fence seem like the yard goes on forever, rather then having the fence there as a border, trapping whoever's back there inside. I thought I'd put flowers, bushes, maybe even some fairies or something, to make it more "magical" for my two small children.

That project particularly excites me, because it will take a long time, and allow me to display my artistic expression where all can benefit from it. It will also present the opportunity to relandscape my backyard, which is another creative outlet I utilize. I enjoy gardening, and particularly designing the layout and seeing it come to fruition.

What about you? Is there a particular creative outlet that you prefer to use, perhaps to alleviate stress, simply to express yourself...

I've planned on letting the kids help...

They're much better artists then myself anyway! lol. There's another one I enjoy ~ decorative lettering. You do it on the computer (at least, I'm assuming, based on your description), and I do it on paper. It can be really nice working with even letters in a new, exciting, and creative way! That's a great outlet you have! Losing Weight and Feeling Great! A Day in the Life of a Pagan Parent The Funtabulous Stuff of the 80's

You're a good artist!

Confidence can be a killer! Don't let a lack of confidence in your self prevent you from expressing you! (Of course, I say that, while being able to fully relate, and unable to take my own advice fully). Losing Weight and Feeling Great! I think a lot of writers have other creative outlets

besides writing. If you need a fence that sounds like a nice idea and I would let your kids paint some of it too so they can explore their creativity. There are some stencils out there that can get you started and you can embellish them to your taste. I design fonts for my outlet. I just love letters, words, etc. It's a lot of fun and it gives me a chance to do something that is unique. I try to find things that go against the adage of there's nothing new under the sun... Writing and Drawing

I enjoy writing and drawing as well. My problem with writing is that I usually never feel confident enough about an idea to put it into words, especially on the internet. As far as art goes I enjoy drawing in a very abstract manner with little structure and allowing myself to just flow with whatever comes to mind. Here is a link to a blog I have just recently created which exemplifies what I enjoy drawing. http://hiddencrimson.blogspot.com/

That sounds wonderful.

As long as you get enjoyment out of it and you're able to express yourself, that's the part that matters. I hope my fence idea will work out. Like I said though, I'm not a very good artist. With some of that patience I'm so often lacking, and hard work, though, I'm hoping that I can accomplish something that's at least almost as good as I envision. Losing Weight and Feeling Great!
