Everyone Needs a Creative Outlet. What's Yours?
posted July 1, 2008 - 5:05pmI enjoy writing, often, which is probably why I'm here on Xomba. But, I have other things that I enjoy doing as well, to express myself.
I'm not very good at drawing, honestly I could mess up stick people! But, I do enjoy painting. It's obviously more on the abstract side, but it's still painting. I've messed about with oil pastels, dry pastels, even blending marker with colored pencil.
One of my favorite things to do, is to make sculptures out of odd items. They're not very big sculptures, but I enjoy taking something seemingly useless and making it pretty and functional, as well as an expression of self.
Later this year, I plan on fencing in my back yard, using wooden fence posts for the frame, and plywood for the actual fence. I decided on that specifically so that I could paint a mural on the plywood, making the fence seem like the yard goes on forever, rather then having the fence there as a border, trapping whoever's back there inside. I thought I'd put flowers, bushes, maybe even some fairies or something, to make it more "magical" for my two small children.
That project particularly excites me, because it will take a long time, and allow me to display my artistic expression where all can benefit from it. It will also present the opportunity to relandscape my backyard, which is another creative outlet I utilize. I enjoy gardening, and particularly designing the layout and seeing it come to fruition.
What about you? Is there a particular creative outlet that you prefer to use, perhaps to alleviate stress, simply to express yourself...
