Evolution, Innovation Or Sheer Laziness

Evolution, Innovation Or Sheer Laziness

The early humans or rather the pre-human humans, alright baboons, were quite capable by themselves. They could run, jump, climb trees and even swing across trees. They were also having sex, by the way. Most of all they were self-sufficient and not really dependent on anyone or anything else.

Most of the history and the theory of evolution would have us believe that right from the prehistoric days the homo sapien has been very smart and innovative. He discovered fire and invented the wheel, domesticated animals, etc. The fact is if one looks at it seriously all through the journey the man has only been making life easy for himself. Every thing the humans have done is just for convenience and nothing else.

The fire, i am sure the humans were equally scared of it in the beginning, helped him keep the other animals at bay, gave him warmth and also made the meat softer to eat. See, convenience. As a result, he lost his hair and lost the sharpness of his canines.

Carrying the loads was also getting cumbersome, so man invented a wheel and slowly lost his load carrying capacity. ( These days we have a sporting event to see who can lift the maximum weight )

If messing up his own body and capabilities was not enough he domesticated animals and ruined them also. Till now the poor things are dependent on humans to provide them a living.

The man was not to be stopped there. Under the garb of increasing efficiency the poor sod just kept on making himself more and more dependent on other things and people. Spears, fishing rods, Light bulb, automobiles, trains, ships, airlines, telephone, radio, TV, Internet, the list goes on. These are things that have now become a necessity for us. The early man was doing just fine without these. Just that now we can't do without these because our ancestors have passed on the "evolutionary genes" totally incapable of hardships, to us.

Imagine the level we have all gone down to. We can't even entertain ourselves these days. We need someone else to entertain us. Even the friends and family members can't be relied upon. So we depend on a book or the radio or television to keep us entertained. The height of laziness we need a remote to change the channel on the TV which is just a few feet away.

Are we really evolving? As an animal on this earth i think we have lost almost all our capabilities. Instead of being a natural evolution catering to the changes in the environment our evolution has more to do with sheer laziness of mankind from day one. Making rules and setting standards for his convenience.

What have we made of this life? Feed from a bottle, ride a pram, have pacifiers, brush the teeth, use soap, wear clothes, study for so many long years, find a job, buy a vehicle, learn etiquette, have haircut, shave the beard, the legs and i don't know whatever, buy a house, get married and the list goes on. Wow! This sure is a complicated life.

What a wonderful life the baboon must be having right now?

It's not nice to fool Mother Nature

As has been the case throughout the Earth's history, Nature has a way of rebalancing the scales. Mankind's not-so-distant future will be no exception. Given the number of nuclear, chemical, and biological weapons around the world and the willingness of some regimes to use them, it is only a matter of time before there is a significant population reduction and destruction of existing governmental infrastructures.

We will set our own evolutionary clocks back a few hundred millenia and we or our offspring will have to relearn basic survival skills all over again. Let's pray we learn from our mistakes.

And So It Stops, and So It Stops ...

All that 'evolution' really is is seeing how we may have climbed the rock-wall of history to make it to this point.

In actual history, many mutations have fallen into nothing, many more probably will fall in the future.

Don't worry, they all will have meant to.

Fool's Paradise!

Thanks jdubhub and mythman for the comments. Mother nature is hardly getting fooled. The man is fooling himself.

We can still be positive. The history of the future is not yet written. Maybe the baboon really is a descendant of man.

Myth, a remote attached to a hand will hardly classify as a mutation!

laziness is hard work

laziness is hard work.

read In Praise of Idleness by Bertrand Russell - is probably on Gutenberg by now.

What happened to the dream of having everything done by robot slaves leaving us with just the higher functions of life such as meditating and drinking fine wines?
Oh yeah, we became the robot slaves.

"These Men are Crazy"!

Like Obelix in "Astrix" Comics would have said. I find men to be crazy. All these inventions are made just to make their own lives more comfortable and easier. They are moving further and further away from reality and nature.

I find plenty of such "laziness" in the male members of my house. Clothes lying around, towels thrown on the bed, pieces of paper lying around wherever they find a place, Can't survive without the remote control in their hands.

I wonder where they will all take us in the end!

Idlewild's picture

Call me crazy,

but I'd rather be doing what I'm doing now rather than working 12 hours a day growing my own food, fighting off wild beasts, pooping in a hole in the ground, and going to bed at sundown because there's no light left to do anything.

Though some modern inventions--like suits and neckties for men, and high-heeled shoes for women--I think modern humans can well do without.

@IdLewiLd|The Capitalism of Evolution (High-Heel Virus)

When women were/are judged like pieces of meat for their worthiness of fulfilling the woman's place in the 'Godly' family, entrepreneurs saw that--'tiptoe' being the best position for legs to be thus judged in--'permanent-tiptoe enablers' (high-heeled shoes) would be a profitable product.

Then--the same McDonald's became more 'a place to eat' than 'a place to hang-out with friends'--'high-heels' became more 'shoes' than 'meat-display-cases.' lol (Today, I recall that most of my grade-school teachers wore high-heels ... usually under long-skirts, sort of defeating 'the purpose' there; but they're viral like that!)

@tapral-mythman + jdubhub--So, Remote Control is Natural?

That's what you're saying if you say it's not a mutation; oh it's not a 'genetic' mutation (yet), but it is more-and-more beginning to become one.

Do you think Luke Skywalker would've been as 'apt to control the force' if his great-great-great-great-grandfather had not perceived- and honed the powers that were his by-nature?
