Game Review

You've probably seen the Evony ads a million times. They're everywhere. And with big breasts they're hard to miss. Since I had free time, I decided to see what the big deal is and joined. If you're looking for a game with breasts everywhere then this game is not for you, but if you're looking for a superb MMO to play then this is a great option.

The Game

Evony is a free to play, browser-based MMORTS where you play a powerful Lord, build up your city and army and expand your army, much like Tribals Wars et al. Unlike these games, it doesn't make use of bulky links: the game is downloaded, displayed in your browser with pretty graphic and runs very smoothly, taking the genre to the next level and making it far more immersive.

Building

The game restricts building to one buidling per city at a time and there is no build queue, which means you have to log on regularly to construct new buildings. Of course, if you can log on for two or three minutes a few times a day - like Facebook or your email - then the system works really well.

Buildings take anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours to complete. The progress is shown in a progress bar that updates in real time.

Heroes

Once you have built an inn and a feasting hall, you can recruit heroes. Heroes serve a number of purposes, including acting as mayor of your town and accompanying attacks, but also charge an employment fee.

Your heroes can also gain experience and level up.

Combat

Once you've built up your army, you can attack other players. You can also scout them first to see how many and what types of troops they have so that you know before hand if your attack is likely to succeed. You can also calculate this before hand by using the handy "exercise" option in your rally point.

A novel concept in the game is "valleys". These can be conquered and then increase your production of resources. These are also hotly contested as there are only so many to go around.

Unfortunately, the combat system seems somewhat imbalanced with archers holding too much power. Hopefully this will be rectified soon.

Alliances

Alliances allow players to get together and help each other out. Often, more experienced players will give advice to beginners. Many alliances are quite lively and add a fun social aspect to the game.

Conclusion

After a few weeks of players and a few fights, I can honestly same I'm enjoying the game. It's enjoyable and you can choose how much time to spend on it. The interface is fun, easy to understand and takes the genre to a new level.

This game can be enjoyed by both the casual player and those who take these games more seriously.
