F1 in India

F1 in India

First & foremost I am pleasantly surprised that F1 is coming to India & the second (not so pleasant) surprise is that it has gone to Delhi of all the places. I feel either Chennai (which has a long & prestigious racing culture) or Bangalore / Hyderabad / Pune (because of the IT / BT connection & where most of the people who follow F1 reside)

However in case the event should be held in Delhi because of the other constraints such as “POLITICS” etc., I strongly feel that it should be a street circuit passing through Rajpat because F1 definitely needs some more fast & furious STREET circuits (unlike Monaco which is all twisted & a very slow F1 track). This is because only in a street circuit you can have the maximum crowd involvement & at a relatively cheaper cost. An other reason being that in future when there is a need to build a new track in India (apart from Delhi) the costs involved will not be astronomical, as the organizers can learn from the Delhi experiment and make changes appropriately.

Finally the biggest surprise is the organizers, Indian Olympic Association. About their capacity to arrange finance & other requirements for running an F1 race, only time will tell. Only hope they are well prepared (unlike their preparation for an event which is held once in 4 years and invariably one in which the entire country is left hoping against hope for at least a bronze or a silver medal).

not surprised

eccleston has been trying for some time to put a race in INDIA, so I am not surprised, however, not having a single Indian in F1, when it comes to India is a shame. Hopefully, it coming to India, will encourage people.
