F1 title: the heartbreaking end
posted November 3, 2008 - 6:52amLuis Hamilton (McLaren Mercedes) has become the youngest formula one world champion, at the age of 23, following a sensational finish of the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Hamilton needed to finish the race in the 5th position in the final grand prix of the season, to secure the championship title, and
he was ranking 6th behind Timo Glock of Toyota. The final lap, witnessed all the drama: Felipe Massa (Ferrari) the other contender for the title, won the race, and started celebrating thinking that Hamilton will finish 6th, but the latter was able to pass Glock on the last mile of the last lap, to finish 5th finish fifth in Sunday's Brazilian Grand Prix in Sao Paulo, winning his first championship title, and the first driver's title for McLaren Mercedes since Mika Hakkinen in 1999, in the most theatrical way.
Hamilton is the first British racer, to win the title since Damon Hill in 1996.
