facebook's valuation: Speculation or true?
posted December 22, 2008 - 5:11amOver the past few days there have been reports that Facebook market valuation drop to $ 2 Billion. According to Henry Blodget investors have been reportedly trading Facebook shares at around $3.50, which gives the social networking super site a market valuation of only $ 2 billion. Is this true? Well I’ll guess this is part only of some Silicon Valley’s speculation, $2 billion is quite low compare to Microsoft’s own valuation of Facebook which is an eye popping value of $ 15 billion. Microsoft has paid premium to thwart Google or Yahoo attack, Microsoft invest $ 240 million for just 1.6% of Facebook, that’s quite high! If this $ 2 billion Facebook valuation is true then Microsoft is in deep trouble. The social networking sites still have those strong mainstream buzz. Zuckerberg’s brainchild has taken the web by storm but as it grows and users’ growth climbed, the company began hitting speed bumps. Everyone on the web is asking if Facebook deserves a $ 15 billion market valuation. The $2 billion Facebook valuation could be a speculation, speculation is part of business and speculation is the favorite game of Silicon Valley’s invertors and VCs. Facebook’s behavior suggest that the Company is doing fine and earning more money, it continue to experience a rapid growth and with no sign of slowdown, absolutely no slowdown! When Techcrunch’s Mike Arrington done some interview with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, its appeared hat Facebook isn’t short of cash and just doing great.
