Facts About Teeth Hypersensitivity

In simple terms, your teeth is hypersensitive. The pain may also occur when you are brushing your teeth, or when you breath in cold air into your mouth.
What are the causes of Dentin Hypersensitivity?
- attrition- this is the gradual loss of strenght in the tooth enamel due to grinding of teeth or biting or eathing hard food.
- erosion- this happens when teeth enamel chips of gradually due to acids from food, or intrinsic factors like GERD (gastro-esophageal reflux disease)
- abrasion- the teeth enamel is slowly scraped off due to hard brushing or overuse of dental whitening products
What are the most commonly affected teeth?
Among those that are commonly affected are the following: incisors and second premolars, canines and first molars, teeth on the left side.
Is there a treatment for these?
Yes, there are various treatments available. The treatment would depend on the assesment of the dentist as well as your choice of treatment. They can be divided into two: Non-invasive or reversible and Invasive or Non-reversible.
Non-invasive procedures are as follows:
- desensitizing toothpaste containing Potassium Nitrate or Strontium Chloride
- Fluoride gel
- Colorless liquid application- protein precipitants, potassium/ferric/aluminum oxalate
Invasive procedure:
- root coverage
- filling with risin compound
- pulp removal
- mucogingival surgery
- pulpectomy
- resins
It is best to consult the dentist for any painful symptoms. Remember that treatment if given early will surely be very effective.

you covered all the bases there. Just want to add that the cervical areas of the teeth get a "V" shaped abrasion that causes sensitivity and is most common lesion which occurs due to a "faulty" brushing technique and using hard toothbrushes and or abrasive toothpastes, or toothpowders..
