Falcons Coach Bobby Petrino Resigns; Heads For College
posted December 12, 2007 - 2:09amThe beleaguered Atlanta Falcons (www.atlantafalcons.com) suffered another blow to their already dismal season today. Just a day after quarterback Michael Vick was sentenced to 23 months in a federal prison for his involvement in illegal dogfighting, head coach Bobby Petrino has resigned. A press conference is scheduled by the team on 12/12/07 to address the resignation. The University of Arkansas is expected to announce tomorrow as well that they have signed Petrino (just a couple hours after he resigned in Atlanta, as a matter of fact) to a multi-year, multi-million dollar contract. Petrino left the University of Louisville after posting a 41-9 record in four years for a $24 million, five-year contract with the Falcons. But after 13 games and a record of 3-10 with the Falcons, Petrino is history in Atlanta. Arkansas apparently hopes Petrino can produce in Arkansas what he produced in Louisville, a perennial bowl contender that ranked in the top 10 teams in the nation in total offense (all four years).
