Fallacy: Memory loss means a person is developing Alzheimer’s disease.

Fact: Alzheimer’s disease is a condition of senility at an early age. The person who has contracted it suffers from severe memory loss. But take heart! Not all cases of memory loss are due to this disease.

The most common cause of memory loss is clinical depression. A depressed person loses his/her concentration, making it difficult for him/her to acquire new information or to retrieve memories. Treatments vary from psychotherapy, taking anti – depressant medications and undergoing electroshock therapy, in order of gravity.
