Famous musician
Dauletkerei was born in 1820 on the shore of the Caspian Sea. His father, sultan Shigai Nuraliev died when Dauletkerei was five years old and his cousin, sultan Mendigirei, the richest man in the Bukei Horde after khan Dzhangir, took up all the cares for his bringing up.
The kuyshi Musrali, a wonderful master, influenced him greatly, he taught Dauletkerei technical methods of dombra playing, introduced him to the rich instrumental work and contributed to the young man going in for music. The European music played an important role in the formation of musician Dauletkerei. Due to his belonging to sultans and due to his being related to khan Dzhangir Dauletkerei often visited the khan’s residence. The oriental dispositions and customs were interlaced with the norms of the European elite’s etiquette in the khan’s environment. One could hear there both singing and playing of some Kazakh popular musician and some exquisite French speech mixed with Russian one under the sounds of a strange European instrument – a grand piano. Dauletkerei knew also Russian popular music and Russian popular instruments. According to his compatriots Dauletkerei was an excellent dombra player when he was twenty years old, he was popular in all the Bukei Horde, besides it he played a Russian balalaika well and he had a good collection of them.
