Goldberg contends that fascism is a socialist phenomenon. Therefore its use as term of abuse of right-wing politicians and policies by liberals and other left-wingers show that they do not understand their own history.

This review argues that whilst making that point effectively Goldberg undermines his case by making pointed, and pointless, jibes at the left in an otherwise well-researched book.
