Fidel Castro and the New York Giants ?

Fidel Castro and his Baseball BuddyCastro plays ball: Fidel Castro and his Baseball buddy in the 1940s

Circa late 1940's, young Fidel Castro made his way through law school at the University of Havana. He spent his time studying the violent politics of the 1930's, including the fall of Cuban president Machado.

Castro was also an avid baseball player, and a damn fine pitcher. Legend has it that the New York Giants offered Castro 5,000 american dollars and a contract to join their team, including citizenship into the United States.

It is said that Castro, while living in Queens, New York botched his tryout audition and was sent back to Cuba by the American Government.

Slighted by the Americas ability to so quickly cast him off, he returned to Cuba and discovered his true calling, becoming an Anti-American politician.
