Finding a Job at 55

Finding a Job at 55

Unemployed at the age of 55 and totally unprepared for the demands of todays job market is intimidating to say the least. I have searched jobsite after jobsite without a clue as to what I might qualify for. I am floundering in deep water and without a doubt will drown in the mass confusion that surrounds me.

I thought to go to McDonalds or Burger King but my blood pressure shoots sky high if I am on my feet for a long period of time. I no longer have the hand strength or speed and agility required for production work in a factory. It takes a little longer for me to grasp facts than it did before the strokes I had a couple of years ago.

I have searched countless work at home offers hoping to find something I can do and work at my own pace only to find that you must pay for a list that might or might not gain you the income you need. Scams abound on the internet and many unsuspecting job seekers fall victim to them.

I can't say I will never fall victim to a scam but I will not fall victim to one requiring me to pay for a list. I have no money to contribute to their schemes.

I'm not old enough to draw Social Security and not totally disabled so I will not qualify for Disability. At the end of the month I will no longer have prescription coverage and there is no way under the sun that I can afford insurance so I fear my prescriptions will not be filled again. I'll have to manage without them until I find gainful enough employment to permit me the luxury of purchasing them again.

I will continue to search for work. I have no idea what I will encounter but I pray that I will find something that will enable me to pay the mortgage, utilities, and keep a few groceries in the house.

Hello

I am not 55, but I know what you mean about not having a clue on what you're going to do. I am soon to be 35. I thank my good Lord that my husband works and does well because otherwise i would be running home to Daddy. Well, I couldn't really do that since I am married; I would have to go do what you are doing and look somewhere. Don't go to McDonalds. That will age you several years and it is so high tech now, the registers, I couldn't even hardly learn them when I went about 10 years ago for a part time gig. The kids are so young I just felt completely out of the game. Try a receptionist somewhere. Anyway. Just thought I would comment when I saw your post. Best of blessings to you.

Thank you. Your assistance is appreciated. I'll check it out and let you know how I do.

Job Web site to check out

Jobs Four Point 0 -- www.jobs4point0.com/ -- is a relatively new site specifically designed for people over 40. It has partnerships with companies who are committed to hiring people that traditional job markets may overlook or ignore. I saw one writing job there that said they didn't want your resume, because your talent was more important. Too bad more companies don't think like that.
