Five Movies to Watch For
posted September 8, 2006 - 10:28pmIt's Friday night, a few days before the debut of the new Fall lineup. Some shows look promising (Ugly Betty, Heroes) and some don't (Shark). But while I will enjoy watching all my shows on TV, it is the movies I most anticipate. Yes yes. The summer of blockbusters that don't matter (with a few exceptions) passed us by with nary a whisper. Now comes the films I've been waiting on since summer began - the ones that play at film festivals before they come to theaters. Part of the interest derives from the director and part from the actors. These movies might not be box office breakers, but they'll be films that will make you appreciate old fashioned story telling. Here are my top five movies from some of my favorite directors to look for.
1. Babel directed by Alejandro Inarritu
2. Pan's Labyrinth directed by Guillermo del Toro
3. The Science of Sleep directed by Michael Gondry
4. Children of Men directed by Alfonso Cuaron
5. Marie Antoinette directed by Sofia Coppola
