Five Techniques to Know If an Employee is Loyal
posted May 4, 2009 - 11:11amTo know if an employee is loyal to the company, or to his master, there are things you can use as a basis to measure one's loyalty.
There are employees who can readily say they are not loyal to the company or to their master and expect that in two years time they will resign. Actually, it is always a struggle for companies to work on strengthening and developing loyalty.
However, a company owner or a manager can detect disloyalty by considering these things:
- Learn the character traits of your employee.
- He does not look you in the eye.
- He loves to gossip about his superior.
- He loves to sabotage other people's work or the company's processes.
- He loves to count the things he had contributed to the company.
- His attention or leadership is broken.
- Try personality tests to know the character type of your employee. Determine levels of joy, importance, strength and opinions of your employees.
- He has inherited a character from a relative who loves to question everything and always contradict what the boss says.
- He initiates unions.
- He belongs to a family of rebels.
- Give importance to trustworthiness.
- He belongs to a lineage that is not trustworthy.
- He inherited traits not trustworthy enough.
- Check if what is expected of him is what is expected by his superiors. There are actions that need to be done to test his loyalty:
- Talk to the employee about new discoveries for the company.
- Look for people with balanced opinions and listen what they have to say about the employee.
- Always be ready with a formal mediation process.
- If there is an independent employee who does not get along well with his superior, measure his loyalty by:
- Checking if he stays with the company after a series of trainings, workshops or seminars.
- Checking if he has his own style of showing loyalty to the company or to his master. People differ.
In summary, employees only need a little of the appreciation and much of the importance that has to be given to stay loyal. As said, a pat on the shoulder is more than the little amounts of money you give.
