Flushable Wipes May Clog Drain Lines So You Can Kiss Your Drain System Bye Bye

My neighbor recently had her drain clogged and anyone who walked in front her house knew it by the odor. When the drain cleaning guys cleared her drain, they informed her that it was caused by baby wipes. I informed her that I never trusted in flushable baby wipes or any type of flushable wipes. They just don't seem biodegradable to me and I didn't feel safe flushing them down the toilet.

When it says flushable on the package, it means the toilet can flush it down into the drain line. It does not mean that it will not get stuck or not cause a clog in your drain system. They get you with the semantics.

The cost to clear a drain line can be several hundred dollars. When the main line gets clogged you will think that it may be broke and think it cause several thousand dollars to dig up and put in a new drain line. Some huckster may even try to trick into thinking that it is. Another trick is to not let you know what was causing the block . In that situation, you would continue using the wipes contributing to future wipe buildups and more profit for your plumber.

The problem with "flushable" wipes is they do not break down like toilet paper does. This will inevitable lead to a buildup of wipes at a tight point in your drain system. The culmination will be one day when everything is backed up and the house smells like a pig sty. If you insist on using flushable wipes then flush with every wipe or every two wipe. Even then you better keep your fingers crossed.

When my child was younger I check reviews online regarding flushable moist wipes and there were a lot of complaints about drain lines being blocked. So I recommend against flushing those wipes down the toilet. Put it in the trash bin or diaper pail. The cost to clear the drain line and then the worry associated with it is just not worth it. For my neighbor it happened on a busy weekday morning and it disrupted her schedule. Think twice about throwing things down the toilet especially flushable wipes that may clog your drain lines.
