Follow European Champions League and UEFA Cup Quarter-Final Draws Live Online
posted March 20, 2009 - 3:43amJust a few hours away now from the European Champions League quarter-finals draw. For the 8 teams awaiting their fate this is the last draw in a somewhat complex Champions League format. The quarter-finals will also define which teams may meet in the semi-finals and the final itself. The draw takes place at 12:00 CET (Central European Time).
With a maximum of four English teams still left in the Champions League it is likely that two of them will meet. Gamblers have a sick sense of humour at times and many are betting that Liverpool and Manchester United will be drawn together. For the first time in many years, Liverpool have beaten Man Utd in both Premiership games, so suspect neither manager will really relish another encounter... until the Final itself perhaps.
The teams left are:
Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United,
Barcelona, Villarreal, FC Porto, Bayern Munich.
Are there any weak teams left in the competition? With Bayern, Liverpool and Barcelona crushing their last opponents they are probably the ones to avoid, with Arsenal, Porto and Villarreal perhaps the three that the other teams would prefer.
The draw for the UEFA Cup will also take place, but these days it plays very much second fiddle to the Champions League.
