Former Prime Minister Bhutto Under House Arrest In Pakistan
posted November 9, 2007 - 7:00amFormer Prime Minister Bhutto is under house arrest in Pakistan. She is being held in her house by armed guards, and her house is surrounded by armored cars and soldiers.
When she tried to leave her house to attend a protest where she was scheduled to speak, she was escorted back inside by armed guards. Soldiers and armored cars then surrounded her house. She has not attempted to leave since that time. She has not been seen by the public since that time.
Top members of her party, more than 200 of them have been arrested and are in jail. Thousands of her supporters have been arrested... their whereabouts unknown.
All media in the country except for state news agencies have been shut down after an independent news agency reported her arrest.
Soldiers and guards are patrolling and barricading streets in an attempt to prevent citizen protests.
There is violence in the streets as protesters are subdued by soldiers.
The situation there seems to be deteriorating rapidly.
