Four Day Weeks

Four Day Weeks

I have been working full time or close to full time since I was 16 years old. I am presently 25 years old with 9 years of my life in the work force. Of those 9 years almost all were spent working 5 days a week and having 2 days off. Of those 2 days off most were spent thinking about why I couldn’t work 4 days a week and have 3 days off.

I have never quit asking that question. I currently work from 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday. I would gladly work 7am to 6pm four days of the week and have a third day of. This would mean an additional 52 days off a year taking my usually 104 days off to 156. That makes it possible for us to all have more than 1/3 of the year opened up for us to relax a little more.

You may be thinking forty hours is still forty hours.

An extra day of not going to work means an extra day of not having to use the gas to drive there. If you work 5 miles from your job and get 30 miles to the gallon at 4$ a gallon a round trip costs 1.33$ per day or 69.33$ a year.

I make the choice to dine out for lunch, not everyone does. If I dine out I usually spend 7$. The average price of me eating the same food at home is about 1.50$ so the difference a day for me eating out at work is 5.50$ or 286$ a year.

I am not the only person wondering why we are working five days a week and why we cannot make the leap to a four day life. Here is a Google search link for you to look at more information on the four day movement. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=four+day+weeks&btnG=Google+Search
