It certainly does take alot of man hours, I self-published my first book years ago, after trying to get an agent for awhile they said same thing great work, but wrong genre for us. I still love to write, and enjoy it. http://www.xomba.com/user/adrienne

but not necessarily richer. You can make a regular income from writing but it is hard work - most writers who get rich have done it via a blockbusting novel or similar.

It also takes time. I love writing and it does take a lot of work. It is so rewarding to have an submitted article receive an acceptance! Your writing becomes your creation ~ kind of like your baby. : ) 1+++

Well, I've been freelance writing for 20 years now ... it's true that you can make a lot of money ... but it's definitely not a biz for the feint of heart. Sometimes you make so much money, you don't know what to do with it ... and other times .... well ....
