Freshen up your microwave
posted September 6, 2006 - 3:10pmI try to use my microwave oven as little as possible. Because other people in my family tend to use it more often this is an easy way to clean it and keep it clean.
Put a quart of water into a microwavable container. Add the peel of one small lemon. Put this into your microwave, and bring it to a rolling boil. While this is heating clear off the top of your microwave and wipe it off with a soft damp cloth. Be sure to also wipe off the sides and front of the unit. After this mixture comes to a boil turn off the microwave. Allow it to sit for a minute or two, then remove the container. You should be able to wipe out the interior of the microwave oven with paper toweling or a soft cloth easily.
To encourage microwave users to cover their food before microwaving it or to clean up any spills promptly, keep a roll of white paper towels either inside the microwave if it is large enough, or on top of it.
