Countries like, Denmark, Norway, Netherlands, Sweden, Slovenia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Macedonia Estoria, Finland, Iceland, including English, French and Portuguese speaking countries considers such day as such. In other countries most especially Chinese owned building does not have a 13th floor.
How did the number 13 become the number of fear? Most especially if it falls on a Friday. As you may know, there is even now a word for this fear of Friday the 13th, “paraskavedekatriaphobia”.
Well, people believe that the number 13 is an unlucky number. There are several theories for these. Among Christians, when Jesus had the Last Supper, there were a total of 13 people at the table. After the last supper Jesus Christ was crucified on a Friday. Thus many Christians consider that dining with 13 people in the table is unlucky.
In numerology and astrology, it is the number 12 that is considered the number of completeness. Think of it, there are 12 months in a year, 12 zodiac signs, 12 apostles of Jesus, 12 tribes of Israel. It is with these account that 13 is considered irregular and usually disturbs the completeness of things and is therefore unlucky.
Now we see a lot of people who believe that the number 13 is unlucky most especially if it falls on a Friday. But such belief actually started in the 19th century and become widespread during the 20th century. Some authors claim that such belief started at the time when the Knights of Templar were arrested – October 13, 1307, Friday.
But the fact remains that these are purely superstitions and there is no rational explanation to such events. People do fear Friday the 13th. Some people also believe that day or number does not affect your day but what you think of that day. In other words, if you think of something bad happening on such day, then you increase the possibility of something bad happening. Thus it is important to think positively any day of the month!
