Fuel? Tip of the Petroleum Iceberg - "We, the people," are all that can save America...
posted July 1, 2008 - 3:17amDid you drive down a paved road today? Did you put your sandwich in a plastic bag. Did you rub some Vaseline on some rough skin? Did you use your computer today? Most of it's made of plastic. How about polyester fabrics? Do you have any of those? Did you put any fertilizer on your lawn or garden today? Did you ever wonder why the Ortho Brand logo looks just like the Chevron-Texaco logo?
Oh, yea, there's your morning coffee cup, what's it made of?? And, when you drove down that paved road did you notice all the ad and store signs, and some store fronts, and people at play, maybe bouncing a ball--most balls are not rubber--and how about your shoes, what are they made of, or, do you really know?
And then there's everybody's favorite material, nylon. Do you know where it comes from? Think about your I-Pod, some skateboards, food packaging, credit/atm cards, CDs, bristles on your toothbrush, clothes hangers (there not made of wire anymore), cosmetics, most lip balms, magnetic tape, luggage, luggage carriers, bongs, the fibers in a cigarette filter, throw-away diapers (now there's a real heaper [oops, I meant helper], well, heaper or helper, its still tied to the lineage,) and, yes, those plastic baby bottles, now outlawed in Canada.
So, let's go on a bit further; plastic picnic wear, inflatable rafts and boating equipment, aircraft interiors, automobile interiors, and possibly exteriors, car wax, floor wax, household cleaners, vacuum cleaner belts, and usually most of the vacuum, electrical cords, wire insulation, some laundry detergents, most glue, and, if, I didn't stop here, I could write pages upon pages of the things, which are part of everyday life, whose origins begin with Petroleum.
Everything we use in life for creature comforts, and transportation, and conducting life in general, is entwined in the oil industry.
America is facing the biggest crisis in its history. Fuel is just the tip of one, giant, deadly iceberg. This is not a cushy problem we'll eventually learn to live with and/or absorb into our current lifestyle. Finding more oil will not save America. Aside from killing our wallets, oil is killing the planet.
In 1977, President Jimmy Carter warned of our use of foreign oil, and, in the 1960's, there was already concerns about our needs for energy in the future. And, what did we do, as a nation? Nothing, except buy bigger vehicles, which used more fuel, and continued our “see-no-evil, speak-no-evil, hear-no-evil, me-only lifestyle. Almost all Americans just assumed our government would solve the problem. How much has been solved? Gas-o-line is $4.30 per gallon for regular in Oregon. Does this price reflect how our government has solved the problem? And, it's time we, Americans, realize the government and, we, the people, are not two separate entities. It's simply “E Pluribus Unum, out of many, one." We, the people, are the government.
And, so, my friends, my fellow citizens, my countrymen, my countrywomen, we are already involved in a problem of the gravest consequences since the Revolutionary War. But this time, the tea is our addiction for oil, and, if we don't get off our ass today, begin an immediate change in lifestyle, there could be a time, in the not too distant future, where our nation is controlled completely by outside governments, and those outside governments include those who wish, “death to America!”
Things are no different than when our founding fathers and our citizens declared war on King George III, and the British Empire. It's time right now, not tomorrow, because tomorrow never comes, to immediately declare war on oil, its foreign producers, and those who have shipped our jobs out of the country. It's time to declare war on auto producers that continue to build gas guzzling equipment. It's time to declare war on manufacturers who still produce products made from oil-based products.
And, you, say, what can you do? As individuals we can make better choices, use less fuel, get rid of the gas guzzler, buy products, which are not made using oil, buy products, not packaged in containers made from a petroleum base, schedule your trips during lighter-traveled hours, walk rather than drive to close places, car-pool, just to name a few things.
Neighborhoods could form committees to involve more people, thus, bring new ideas to the table, and have weekly meetings to plan, initiate, and set goals to just change what's going on in their neighborhoods, and, the more neighborhoods that sign on to the ideas and lifestyles of the 21st Century, the more “change” will happen, and it'll be difficult, but, if we, the people, roll-up our shirtsleeves and start now, the changes that will come will be for America, to save America for, we, the people.
During World War II, that's exactly what Americans did. They formed committees made up of their neighbors, and friends, set agendas and timetables and goals all in an effort to beat the enemy. Winning World War II was a nationwide, and neighborhood-wide effort. And, regardless, of what brought them into World War II, each and every American participated in the War effort. And it's going to take an effort of that magnitude to win the war now, the second American Revolution. If you value the freedoms this nation gives, you'll join and fight. Or, we will perish, becoming as dead as yesterday's newspapers.
If we continue our current course you can say goodbye to everything this nation stands for. You'll end up back where it all began, working as a “serf” for a lord (OPEC, China, and, God, only know, who else). Our government will be reduced to that of a puppet-government who is dictated to by those who hold our wallets.
The Second American Revolutionary War has begun. It's now a live-free or die situation. It's time for another Boston Tea Party, but, this time we can call it the American Tea Party. I wonder every day if our citizens have any backbone left, or will we just shake like jellyfish as our conquerers come ashore.
This sweet place called America was built by some really hardy souls, some born here, some not, but, together they built a nation from sea-to-shinning-sea, journeyed to the Moon six times, have explored the universe looking for new places like Earth, and, just recently, discovered Mars is a lot like earth, with furtle soil, and possibly a new place to extend our home.
Our dark-age ideas of taking from Earth and not returning anything and giving our hard earned capital to others, who could care less about us, or, even hope we will die, are writing the final chapter for America, right now. So, before the final chapter is type-set for publishing, we need to re-write it, and rewriting must start now. And, never believe “the government” will solve this problem. The government can't solve the oil problem. Why? Because, the government is just an elected group of people, and account for less than one-percent of the biggest group in our nation, “we, the people.” If the people don't initiate “the change,” the government will have to surrender to those better prepared, and whose only aim is to gut-America.
I, challenge every person who reads this to do something today, no matter how small, and do something the next day, and the next day, talk with your neighbors and friends, make saving America a topic each day in discussion, write, if you can about saving America, and, believe it or not, the word will spread, and, we can win this revolution as we did the last American Revolution, with citizen-soldiers.
Your decision is needed today, fight, or surrender. America's future is in your hands, and the final chapter, is, yet, to be published.
The future is NOW! It's time to revolt. It's time to take America back, or toss it to the dogs, and, the dogs, those oily mongrels, they'll bite and tear without thought. We can fight them or feed them. The choice is yours...
