Generating Hundreds (or More) Great Writing Ideas

There are a lot of people out there looking at making it big on the Internet. They are going to write their way into an income worth talking about. This is a great place to start, but without ideas and a lot of them, they aren't going to get far. So, how does one generate a lot of great ideas?

Write what you know! New writers are told this all the time and it works for writers who write online as well. Inside you is a wealth of information that can help others out. It is unique to you and you can put that down and make money from that knowledge. You may not even realize how much you have to offer!

Your everyday life is a great place to start generating a lot of ideas. If you write them down as they come to you, it will be easier to keep track of them. You may even want to set up a notebook with each site you are writing or blogging for and the ideas that you have for writing on that site. This will help keep you organized.

So, where do you get those ideas from your everyday life? Look at the things you enjoy doing, the things you have studied, your hobbies, the roles you play in life, the jobs you have had, and even the things you hate doing but know how to do. You can write them down as broad topics and then break them up into lots of different titles. Here are some examples.

I enjoy reading, studied history in college, love making jewelry, am a mom, worked at Starbucks (the coffee shop), and hate cooking.

Reading-There are articles that can be generated from the topic reading. "How to Read and Enjoy Shakespeare", "Romance Novels Explored", "Books to Read for a Better Way of Thinking".

History-History is a broad topic, so I might break it into sub categories such as Native American History with titles such as "The Ojibwa Story", "The Chippewa Tribe of Michigan", and "The Migration of Native Americans".

Jewelry Making-This is a huge topic with lots of options. I could write titles "How to Make Your First Necklace", "Making Bracelets with Stretchy Cord", "Using the Ladder Stitch in Jewelry Design".

Motherhood-This is another one that has a lot of different parts to it. However some titles could be "Expecting Twins, What Now?!?", "Surviving Postpartum", and "Disciplining Your Young Child".

Starbucks-At the jobs that we work at we often find that we learn a lot along the way. Working at the coffee shop taught me a great deal of things. Good titles from this would be "Ordering Your First Starbucks' Coffee", "Understanding Free Trade Coffee", "The Herbal Tea For You", and "Understanding the Difference Between a Latte and a Cappuccino".

Cooking-Finally, I hate cooking. This means I have learned a lot of ways to get around it and it can become a topic. I could write "5 Easy Meals for Busy Moms", "Eating Out with Health and Budget in Mind", and "Cutting Corners in the Kitchen Without Cutting Nutrition".

Everything in your life can be used and you can find that you can come up with a lot of great titles by using this method. Of course, when you think about writing hundreds and even thousands of articles you may want to also look in other sources. There are lots of options for you to get ideas.

Watch the news, TV shows, movies, read the news online, read forum postings, message boards, or even social websites to get lots of great ideas. In the beginning, stick with the things you don't have to spend a lot of time researching. Once you are feeling more comfortable branch out. Another option is to go to the library and study topics that interest you. This can gain a lot of different titles that you will then have learned about. Reading magazines (even at the library) can also get you some good ideas.

The world around you is a great place to get hundreds and even thousands of ideas for your online writing. Write them down and work your way through them. This can help you make a lot of great articles and keep motivated, plus it will be easier to work through writers block. This works well for articles, but also for blogs. So, go on and get started!
