Getting Creative with Melt and Pour Soaps
posted June 13, 2008 - 7:55amMelt and pour soap is easy to make and there are a ton of great options for creating beautiful soaps. It doesn't take a lot of work, but it can make a truly lovely soap product.
The Process. Most melt and pour soaps on the market today can be melted in the microwave. However, you should always read the directions on your soap base. Once your soap base is melted you can add all sorts of ingredients including color, fragrance, oils, and herbs. You can then take your melted soap and make great projects.
Soap Balls. To make beautiful soap balls you will want to melt your soap, add a tablespoon or two of your favorite oil, aloe Vera gel, and or vitamin E oil for a wonderfully moisturizing soap. Then add color and fragrance. Finally, wait for the soap to cool to a thickening state. Then roll it into balls. You can make both large balls or small ones. These can be truly beautiful. Some other great additives include soft cooked oatmeal, rose powder, cinnamon, and poppy seeds.
Miniature Guest Soaps. You can make tiny guest soaps by melting your melt and pour base and adding your additives. This can include your favorite color and fragrance. Finally you will need to carefully pour your soap into candy molds. This will make tiny guest soaps that are really cute.
Multi-colored Soaps. You can make great multi-colored soaps. You do this by pouring a color or two of your favorite fragrance. Then you will shave or slice the color up. Then you will paint the slices or shivers with oil and place in the bottom of the mold. Then melt some new soap and add another color or fragrance (clear is a good option). Then you will want to let it cool a little bit (so you don't melt your shivers or slices). Once it has cooled a bit you will want to pour the fresh soap onto the slices or slivers. You will then let it cool. One option is to place blue and white slivers into the mold and pour clear soap over it. It then looks like a frozen soap. You can even add great smelling peppermint or wintergreen to the soap!
This is only a fraction of your soap making options. You can be very creative with all the things that you do with your soaps. You can be creative and make great soaps that can be used by your entire family, given aways as gifts, or even sold!
