Researchers say that a 35-mile rift in the Ethiopian desert will eventually become a new ocean. The crack opened in 2005, giving rise to the theory which was viewed with a high degree of skepticism until now.  The latest study involving an international team of scientists has been published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters concludes that the process that created the rift is almost identical to the type of activity that takes place on ocean floors.
