Girl gets a felony for bringing steak knife to school

A young girl brought a steak knife to school for her lunch and was sentenced to a felony. The parents of the girl claimed that she needed it for her steak in her school lunch. As more and more violence occurs in public schools around the country, is this too harsh of a punishment?

Parents should be more aware of what their children are doing, as well as what they are bringing to school. As time goes on, perhaps children will not even be allowed to use scissors in school because it could be used as a weapon. What many people don't realize is that these objects can not just start attacking students, but it requires a misbehaving student to use these items in a lethal way.

Parents and teachers need to be more aware of the actual character of students in order to prevent mis use of certain items. Violence in schools as well as over bearing punishments will continue to occur until parents and teachers alike realize that the children are the ones who need extra attention and help, not more restrictions in their school.

If the feckless individuals that purportedly keep our airports safe ever get put in charge of school security, then we are all in trouble. No scissors, knives, nail clippers or files and no liquids over eight ounces. Every student must take off his or her shoes and pass through a metal detector. Anyone not complying will be taken to the principal's office and be subject to strip searches and possibly be violated by people making minimum wage yet still have a gun.

Despite the "best" efforts of these mental giants, airline safety isn't any safer than attending many public schools--maybe because common sense has been replaced with political expediency.

The girl was charged pour encouragez les otres and for the simple reason that the school district was unwilling to admit that the rule was rushed into existence without any forethought of what constitutes a credible threat against the student body and what is simply used to eat lunch.
