Global Grind, the New Hip-Hop Web Page from Russell Simmons

Global Grind is a new Web start page or home page, but with a twist: it's geared toward the needs and interests of the hip-hop community. The creator of Global Grind (at www.globalgrind.com) is none other than hip-hop impressario Russell Simmons.

Simmons introduced Global Grind on the MTV show Run's House, which features Reverend Run from Run-DMC, who is the brother of Russell Simmons. A lot of people are checking out Global Grind, because it's slow to load. And it's not yet viewable in all Web browsers.

Global Grind seeks to help its readers discover "From the global view of all sites important in the hip-hop community, to the most popular discovered content," as well as upload their own content. Readers can also "grind" an article (give it a positive vote, like at Digg.com).

Hip-hip has a snazzy new Web 2.0 home on the Internet with Global Grind; we'll have to see what Russell Simmons and his team can do to make it a success in a very crowded market of Web site portals.
