God Exists

God Exists

Many people wonder if God exists. I can tell you He is real. I am Jewish by birth. As a kid, I was forced to go to services with my parents and I just couldn’t relate. I was a Hebrew School drop-out. But I embrace my Jewish Culture and I am proud of who I am. But a Christian friend of mine, Craig, changed my life.

Craig and I had known each other for years. We met in a theater group and after that he became my best friend, next to my husband. We’d watch old movies together, critique old and new movies we had seen and have lots of laughs. Craig has a great sense of humor. He’d slap his knee and we’d howl at the bad movies.

One day out of the blue, Craig asked me why I didn’t believe in Jesus. I answered, “I was brought up that way. He was a good teacher but a man, not Son of God”. Craig told me that Jesus was the Messiah and first came to the Jews. He told me that I could still retain my Jewishness and be a believer in Christ. I did a little research and found out that there were Messianic Jews or “Jews for Jesus”. So I went to see one of the Rabbis and spoke to him. I was convinced and decided to take the next step.

Craig told me about his Church of the Assemblies and that we should go there to a service and afterwards, I can declare my belief in Jesus. We went to the church but the parking lot was empty. Apparently, the service was canceled for some reason. We tried the door and it was unlocked. We gingerly went inside. The church was dimly lighted. We were the only ones there. Craig was ready to head home when I said, “Didn’t you tell me that “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.’?” And Craig answered, “Yes”. I responded, “Well there are two of us.” (Matthew 18:20). So he agreed to stay. We headed towards the the pulpit and sat down. It was there where I professed my believing that Jesus was my personal savior.

Craig prayed with me and he had told me once that when you are filled with the Holy Spirit, you get one or more of these nine gifts: utterance of wisdom, spiritual knowledge, faith, gifts of healing, working of miracles, prophecy, ability to distinguish between spirits, various kinds of tongues and interpretation of tongues. Craig said that I would get at least the gift of tongues as the sign that I was filled by the Holy Spirit. He had gotten the gift of tongues. So Craig prayed in English and in an unknown language to us, but understood to God.

I figured that we would stay until Craig was finished and we’d leave the church and that was that and I was saved. Then suddenly, I felt hand on my forehead push me down. Then a surge of electric-like energy filled my entire body. I felt giddy like I was on a super ‘high’. Craig and I just laughed and giggled like we were two drunks. I don’t remember how long I was down but when this ‘thing’ stopped, I got up and noticed Craig standing beside me. I asked him what just happened and he said I was in-filled with the Holy Spirit. “But why did you push me down?” I asked Craig. He answered, “Ididn’t push you down. I went down as well.”

Craig explained there was a passage in the Bible that told what happened to the apostles on the day of Pentecost (seven weeks after Jesus’ resurrection). “Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability” (Acts 2:3-4). Some of the crowd were amazed when they recognized languages from where they were born. They didn’t know how the apostles from Galilee could have known them. Others thought that “...they were drunk, that’s all” (Acts 2:13).

Afterwards, my head was spinning for hours. I was in total awe of this supernatural ‘gift’ from God. Without a doubt, I knew that God exists along with His Son, Jesus at his right hand. I am now a Jewish-Believer.
