Golf Resorts St Croix US Virgin Islands
posted February 8, 2008 - 11:52amSeeking a little green with your white sandy beach and blue ocean waves? For golfers the island of St Croix US Virgin Islands offers a golfer's paradise.
St Croix is the largest of the three US Virgin Islands at 84 square miles. The island is surrounded by the Caribbean Sea and features beautiful beaches. The island was a Danish possession until 1917 and historic influences of Denmark can be seen in the island’s architecture. The main town of Christiansted lies on the central east side of the island. Just east of Christiansted is the historic Buccaneer Hotel and Golf Course.
Voted one of the top 50 tropical resorts, the historic Buccaneer hotel opened in 1947 by the Armstrong family who had raised cattle on the site since the 1920s. The hotel gives guests glorious views of Christiansted to the east and (on a clear day) St Thomas and St John to the north.
Play a round of golf on a course that Travel and Leisure Golf “cited as one of the most scenic.” This par 70, 18 hole golf course is just over 5,600 yards of spectacular golfing and Caribbean views. Designed in 1973 by Bob Joyce, The Buccaneer golf course is considered challenging but playable for all skill levels.
Resort amenities include guest sweets, hotel beach, beach bar, and gourmet restaurant. At its beachside location, The Buccaneer offers several water sports in addition to tennis, natural trails to hike and weekly guest events. After your round of golf is over, dine on a sumptuous meal and enjoy one of their classic vintage cocktails while watching the sun sink over the island.

Carambola Golf and Country Club is part of the Carambola Beach Resort on the northwest coast of the island. The Carambola Resort, named for the star fruit trees found on island, was part of a 4,000 acre development by the late Laurence Rockefeller. Located on what once was a thriving sugar plantation during Danish colonial occupation of the island, ruins of the stone houses of the plantation and the signature sugar mills are found on the resort site. The course sits in a valley on the edge of a rainforest, just a short distance from the oceanfront Carambola Beach Resort.
The Carambola Golf Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, who proclaimed Carambola his most beautiful course. The 18 hole golf course offers golfers scenic views and great drives. The resort’s website offers an interactive map of the course so that travelers can familiarize themselves with the holes and terrain. Golf instruction and private lessons are available for groups or individuals and a support staff is on hand to assist golfers. http://www.golfcarambola.com
The Carambola Golf Resort offers villa rentals so that visitor may stay on the greens. The Golf Resort features a pro shop, bar, restaurant, two pools, clay tennis courts and hiking trails. http://www.carambolavillas.com/
