Of Birthdays, Weddings and Reunions: Purposes and Practicalities
posted July 9, 2007 - 2:11amSo much wonderful stuff ... where to begin? We'll do it chronologically.
The Birthday of the KingIt all started 26 years ago today (July 9th) at 7:07 a.m., when was born the one whom they shall call ... ehh, you know, That Guy. (For he shall be That Guy unto the world ... etc.)
The Wedding to Mark the ... (see below)Then came yesterday, when William Cheynne James and Haley Hart became William Hart and Haley James (oy! these kids and their need for co-dependent independence!)
That's right, Haley Hart–my mom's friend's daughter, of whom I've probably written before–'went `n found herself a man!' Granted, she didn't need the wedding to secure his devotion for her; but preparation for the festivities did lead the both to a fuller realization of ... see below ...
What the festivities led me to was the opening of my season of ...
Reunions: Above the 'Below' You're Scrolling-Down to SeeSee; contrary to what one my assume from the depth of my wisdom, I don't get out much. If I did get out more often (which probably would've happened had the 'get out more often'-option not been cut off like a Jewish infant's frenulum), I probably would have kept-up-with the friends who reunited with me at the wedding's reception:
one (Josh Updegrove) whom I had known since elementary-school, one- or two (Jason Seitz, Kira ... I want to say 'Knightley,' but I'm pretty-sure that's not right) since middle-school and high-school, and one (Gideon Keith) whose mother (Ms. Kitty) had been a teacher I knew in high-school.
What she told me reconfirmed my belief-in-myself: that I have an 'unstoppable spirit'—what Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (author of FLOW and The Evolving Self) would call "a flow-personality." I have the ability to (occasionally) seperate my ego from my consciousness in order to 'see all righteousness fulfilled.'
That–the fulfillment of righteousness–is very-much like ...
What You're Scrolling-Down For: The Realization(s) Met at the WeddingCheynne Hart made an observation during 'the cutting of the cake' that hit the nail right on the head: "During all the preparation for the wedding, I realized we're doing all this more for the community than -for ourselves."
Maybe 'doing all this for the community' is another way of saying 'seeing all righteousness fulfilled.' The only difference being that 'the community' itself may not be 'righteous' (or the one doing the righteous fulfilling may not be comfortable with its definition of 'righteous').
See, the community's definition of 'righteous' for a single man is "making ends meet" and "ready to start growth of his family." My definition of a single man's 'righteousness' is 'ready to start growth of his family,' but is much more than 'making ends meet.'
Thus I would do well to "do very well," and so I shall ... with a little help from you, my friend.
