Good ole' fashioned sweet tea... that's one of the major perks of being a southerner. It's so funny cause I went to Connecticut a few years ago, and I had no idea that sweet tea wasn't available everywhere. I ordered some at a restaurant, and they looked at me like I was crazy. I was born, raised, and still reside in Nashville Tennessee. I am extremely proud of my southern heritage, and I would never even dream of living elsewhere. Northerners seem to think that sweet tea is when you take a glass of iced tea and pour sugar in it. No, sug, it's far more than that. So here, I am going to give you the trick to making the perfect sweet tea. First, you start with some Lipton tea bags. Some folks say to use 6 or 7, but I like mine strong, so I use 10. You can either boil some water or use the cheater version (the coffee maker. After you brew the tea, you pour it into a gallon pitcher. The key to southern sweet tea is that the sugar goes in first. Before you pour the tea in the pitcher, put about a cup to a cup and a half of sugar in the bottom of the pitcher. You will pour the tea over it. Then, stir. After that, you fill the rest of the pitcher with water. Finally, you fill a huge glass with ice, pour the sweet tea in, and enjoy!!!

I know what you mean when you visit other areas who think you're crazy when you order sweet tea! I thought it was a staple everywhere. Not so much.

Thanks for posting the sweet tea recipe for those that have never experienced the sugary goodness of proper sweet tea. Don't forget the lemon!

I have lived in Virginia for 30 years. I'm originally from Los Angeles, CA. I saw sweet tea and tried it. It's ok but a little too sweet for my tastes. Each to his own I say.

If grew up drinking sweet tea then you will like it because you are used to how sweet it is. Its like eating real spicy chili, in a way, if you grew up eating real spicy chili you're not going to feel the heat. If not, then you're going to be running to get a big glass of water.
