Google to Offer AOL Chat Through Gmail

Google Inc. announced this week that it is adding a new feature that will let people chat on AOL's instant messaging service through Gmail, Google's popular free, Web-based e-mail service.

Google is still working on the code to allow Gmail users to connect to AOL instant messaging, or AIM, so not all Gmail users will be able to use the service when it goes live.

Google first disclosed its plans to open up Gmail to AIM in December 2005.
