Government Student Grants

Each year there are thousands of college bound students that need assistance to cover the steep and rising costs of eductation.  These days it is not unusual for college to run $100,000 or more for a four year degree.  If you are one of the many college bound families seeking relief, here are some things you should know about geting money for college and Government student grants.

The first thing you need to know is that planning ahead is essential to your success in getting funding for school.  Grants and scholarships have deadlines and it can take a long time to find and apply for programs that may be able to help you.  Getting started with the process early can make a big difference in the ammount of funding that you can get.

Types of Assistance

There are several different types of financial assistance available depending on your circumstances and needs.  These types are...

* Scholarships
* Student Loans / Government Student Loans
* Government Student Grants / Private Grants for College
* Entitlements

Certain types of assistance such as grants, scholarships and entitlements do not have to be paid back.  Other types such as loans are low rate programs where you can borrow money for school and pay it off later after you join the workforce.  Government student grants and scholarships often have very specific requirements as to who is eligible to recieve money for school.  That said, there are many programs available to help.

Getting a Government student grant is not as easy as it appears and it's not always the best way for everyone.  For starters, most grants are only accepting applications one or two times a year.  Plan ahead if you intend to apply to these so that you dont miss the deadline.  Sometimes, scholarships and entitlements are more effective ways to go thanks to the faster decisions and application process.
