Governor John P. DeJongh, Jr. Has Yet to Name a Commissioner for the Department of Education
posted November 23, 2007 - 10:35amNovember 23, 2007, - Governor John DeJongh has yet to nominate someone to lead the Department of Education for the Virgin Islands. Since the 27th Legislature of the VI dealt the Governor with its knock down punch by axing nominee, Dr. Lynn Spampinato, on October 18, 2007, to lead Education he has yet to submit another nominee for the position.
Apparently still reeling from the knock down punch, the most important cabinet level position in his administration remains vacant. With 11 months into his administration the Governor has dragged his heels on submitting another nominee after the Spampinato fiasco.
Senators and residents alike have stated on several occasions that there are highly qualified individuals within the territory that is more than capable of leading the Department of Education.
How much longer do the students and faculty of the Department of Education have to wait for a leader? When is the Governor going to wake up and get to work!
