Great Way to Measure Traffic For Your Blurbs & Bytes on Xomba
I am sure fellow Xombies will agree when i say that reads were an excellent way to measure web traffic on yours bytes and blurbs here on Xomba. So it was was pretty dismaying when reads went off on Xomba some time back.
However, this was essential to give a new makeover to the Xomba bride by way of server upgrade. While Nick has been kind enough to assure us reads will be back, in the meanwhile, here is a nifty little utility that i have been using as a substitute for reads.
It is simple, requires no registration, no submission of email id or answering any surveys. And most of all it take few clicks to get the code and works pretty well.
All one needs to do is to enter the url of the byte/blurb on the utility, choose the format of display and press enter to generate the code. This code is to be pasted at the end of your blurb or byte. The counter generates on submission.
I thought of sharing this with fellow Xombies who would like to monitor the web traffic on their bytes/blurbs. I hope it is useful to at least a few of us.
Here is the utility.

Same one I've been using....
Thank you for posting it for others to know about it.
Reads Not Important?
Thanks for writing in Wdzzz. But i think not many of us seem to want the reads back.

Yeah Who Cares
Don't you get the same effect if you track it in AdSense? Reads don't mean anything...it's the clicks that count!
Reads: I care
and so do many other xombies. Adsense only lets you track 200 articles/channels. I now have more than 5,000 posts online with Xomba, other writing sites, and my blogs.
Not everyone is on Xomba to make money, so clicks aren't as important to them as how many people read their posts.
Reads: Pulsating Beats
As far as i am concerned, reads are the pulsating beats of an article. Nil reads mean zero traffic - this is akin to a dead article. Its the reads (measured web traffic) that injects life into an article. Reads are to "web aricles" what heartbeat is to the living beings.
In that I agree with Idlewind.

Reads counter
I've used the one mentioned in this article many times over the last six months ago and have been satisfied with it: it gives you lots of different formats, is unobtrusive, and most importantly (to me) it doesn't make you go through a lot of rigamarole to use it--you don't need to register for anything or provide your email address, personal info, your mother's chocolate chip cookie recipe, etc.
good information
Thank you for the information Kukku. Another good xombyte +1 my friend.

Great Relief
It is great to know that a towering xombie like Idlewild has also been using the counter. Thanks for replying, Idle.
But i still wonder why is the utility free?

Towering xombies
I'm not sure if I'm a towering xombie (sounds like a horror movie, doesn't it?), except maybe in the sense of the weight I've gained while on vacation this week.
The counters have advertising (a line or so) underneath them, that's how they can be offered free. But not every counter I've seen has an ad with it at every time.
‘e-zee’ counters
I don't think you can really tell who read it but it does tell you either *unique visitors or *Pageviews :)
***At this point in time we are not currently accepting advertising from new clients; currently we are facing a greater demand for sponsorships than there are downloads of our free and ‘e-zee’ counters. Feel free to follow the directions below on contacting us if you would like to be notified when we do begin accepting new sponsors. Thank You.)

Counter
You are right, LadyKenai, you get to see only the page views/unique views just like "reads"(which gave page views). So now reads are back in a way.
Thanks for writing in.

Eggsovresy.....
Thanks a ton dear friend, for your generous praise. Nice that you find it useful.
On second thoughts ,i think "reads" had a better advantage. Reads could be seen only by logging in. And not by general visitor, i suppose.
