Great Way to Get Into Shape
posted January 8, 2009 - 12:42pmNowadays, everyone is trying their hardest to get in shape and stay that way! I recently got interested in Brazilian jiu-jitsu (a type of Martial Arts) because for years my younger nephew had classes at the local Martial Arts center in my hometown. It always blew me away the fact that after taking it for three years, he could pick me up and I probably have about 40 to 50 pounds on him.
I decided I needed to get in shape and it would also be a great way to learn how to protect myself as well. Jiu-jitsu is mainly ground combat without really needing to use weapons. Eventually over time, it allows you to be more mellow and have more patience as a result. The moves aren't TOO advanced and my class even had little seven year olds whipping up on the police officers who decided to participate in the weekly classes. It's crazy how much your muscles burn when first starting out. That only made me realize how badly out of shape I really was. At first, it makes you feel a little embarassed that the little kids can gang up on you but eventually you'll learn more moves and techniques. It's actually quite enjoying and I definitley saw an improvement in my waistline pretty soon, too.
So, to all the people who want to get fit and stay that way and also learn how to defend themselves in a variety of situations, I recommend you look up this fun martial arts class.
