grow your own avocado tree!
posted July 3, 2008 - 12:08amever wanted to take the pit out of a avocado and grow your own tree?
this will show you how in a couple of easy steps!
-first, you will need to clean all the green fruit off the avocado o using cold water. you can even eat the green fruit part, its really good, and full of nutrients!)
-second, find the width of the avocado and place three toothpicks about 1/2" deep. (It's okay if you push them in deeper or even a little less) the toothpicks will hold the avocado in place and hold the top part of the pit in fresh air. be careful pushing in the toothpicks though! OUCH!
third, place the pit in a glass of water. the toothpicks will rest on the rim of the glass and hold the pit in place so it doesn't sink to the bottom. remember to frequently check the water level because it will soak it up pretty fast. carefully put more water i when needed.
LASTLY!!
place you plant in a bright and sunny windowsill or something! in a few weeks, the avocado pit will begin to split and a stem sprout will emerge from the top and roots will begin to grow at the base! enjoy you new plant! they are very pretty houseplants.
