On Thursday morning (Jan. 8, 2009), Macy’s reported 4% decrease in same-store sales in the 2008 December holiday season comparing to one year earlier. And according to the forecasted figures, the past holiday season sale is the worst for the whole retailer sector in the past 10 years. In order to deal with the serious nationwide economy shrinking, Macy’s Inc. decided to close its underperforming department stores, located in 9 states across nation, including: California, Colorado, Florida, Hawaii, Indiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Pennsylvania and Tennessee. Macy’s store-closings event is a piece of great news for consumers, since Macy’s said that they are going to run store-closing final clearance sale next week. All the closing stores will participate in this sale event, except the Hawaii store.
