Guinness Book of World Records | Fastest Text Messaging

We already have the fastest car, the fastest time to pluck a turkey, fastest time to eat a 12" pizza, and fastest time to carve a pumpkin, so how can we not have a fastest text message record? Oh, my bad, we do!!

The record for the fastest text message blindfolded is 45.09 sec, achieved by Elliot Nicholls (New Zealand), at the Telecom shop on Filluel Street, in Dunedin, New Zealand, on 17 November 2007.
Fastest Text Message Blindfolded

I am not a text messaging person; in fact, my cell phone is an older model that has been discontinued. It doesn’t even have a camera! It is the original phone I received when I signed up for cell service about 7 years ago, a Nokia 3390.

When I see people text message, I am amazed at the speed that their fingers move from button to button and BAM! The 5 sentences are sent. Now granted, these sentences are not proper, but the speed in which the fingers move to accomplish this is simply amazing to me.

The other thing that amazes me with text messaging is the acronyms. On occasions, I have received text messages and I am usually dazed and confused by these letters bunched together. I have learned some of the basics like, idk (I don't know), lol (laugh out loud) imo or imho (in my opinion or honest opinion), but I would have to admit, many of these messages result in a phone call to the sender with the question of, "What did you say?"

Spelling is another thing that is lost in text messaging. The word "what" becomes "wut", the word "for" becomes "4", "because" becomes "coz" and "you" is replaced with "u". I have come to understand that text messaging is a whole new writing style.

Idk, this hole tm thing is so confusing 2 me.

Degrading spelling and grammar

You are right samual. Sadly, spelling and grammar are suffering and I'm fearful that the techno kids of today will also suffer tomorrow. Sending Happy Thoughts and Smiles - MJ Avatar: Belief My journey for Balance Subscribe to MJ's Xombytes

I had to reply to PML! I recall some....oh... 12-15 years ago trying to get PML used on UK chatrooms and forums. I mean, who the hell says LOL IRL? OMFG works too. ROFLMFAO just doesn't roll off the tongue, now does it? IMNSHO. Join Xomba Here

PML

Don't use it myself - that would make me a potty mouth. I've another which I can't share in full as it could be seen as blasphemy - suffice it to say it's OMG with an added letter between the O and the M. Laugh Out Loud

Technology comes with its advantages and sometimes disadvantages too. Degrading language grammar is one, LOL~

ROFL - So That's what it was!

Oh yes, That is exactly what had me confounded for so long...Now why didn't I think of that? Rolling On Floor Laughing! That makes sense now. Duh! Thanks for helping me with that one. The Arcade http://www.xomba.com/referral/77778

A comment from a Texter

Hmmm... I'll have to give it a try sometime next year! : ) I do enjoy suprising my son with a text message every so often. It is so rare that he usually will call and laugh asking me why I sent a text. He has witnessed my fumbling while I text his friends on his phone in fun. I think he actually enjoys watching my struggles. The child teaching the parent and all... Sending Happy Thoughts and Smiles - MJ Avatar: Belief My journey for Balance Subscribe to MJ's Xombytes

T-9

The secret to using the predictive text is to not look at the screen. Type the letters that spell the word and look only at the key pad. When you are finished typing the word, look to see what options it gave. There are usually a couple of choices of word if the desired word isn't what was predicted. Scroll to the word and...bingo. It gets easier the more you use it. Hope that helps

ROFL and the "old" generation!

ROFL = Rolling On Floor Laughing, if that is what you mean. If it is RFMO, that would require a phone call to the sender asking, "What?" : ) It take me about 5 minutes to send a text message with, "What year is your truck?" I too spell out the words. First I have to find the letter on the keypad, then push the number until it gets to the letter I want, and go on like that for each word. I heard about this "predictive text" mode, but that just doesn't work for me. It changes the word I want each time I push a new letter. Talk about frustrastion. I dont have unlimited text, so...I just tell everyone not to text me, email, phone or come on over! Wow, rawnak, the "old" generation. But, but... I'm only 36 remember? I'm forever young... I'm gonna have to accept that times are a changing... : ) Sending Happy Thoughts and Smiles - MJ Avatar: Belief My journey for Balance Subscribe to MJ's Xombytes
