Guitar Hero: Aerosmith Preview

While many gamers will see the upcoming Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, due June 29, as a way for Activision to prey off of consumers by "exploiting" the Guitar Hero brand, they need not worry...a quality product awaits them.

GH: Aerosmith is the sort of documentary, sort of life story of the band which players will follow through starting at the band's genesis, Nipmuc High School. The game is set up in different tiers and ramps up to different Aerosmith milestones during the band's career; the venues included are real-life counterparts to places the band has played at.

The game will be released in a variety of flavors:

Bundles

Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360 - $99.99 (includes game and guitar)

PS2 - $89.99 (includes game and guitar)

Stand-Alone Game

PS3 and Xbox 360 - $59.99

Wii and PS2 - $49.99

Expect Exclusivity

In this day and age of competing music games -- see: Rock Band and Konami's recently announced Rock Revolution -- exclusive songs are vital to get a hold of that rhythm-inclined gamer. GH: Aerosmith is no different.

Newsweek recently reported that Aerosmith's catalog of songs featured in their very own Guitar Hero will remain exclusive to the series for an unspecified amount of time. That means that while gamers can rock out to "Train Kept A Rollin'" on Rock Band now, future numbers from the band are up in the air for EA's game.

Don't Expect to Play Previously Downloaded Songs

One of the bummers with Guitar Hero: Aerosmith is that the game will not be backwards compatible with downloadable songs from previous installments ofGuitar Hero. That means no Guitar Hero II DLC tracks. No Guitar Hero III DLC songs.

It seems like a serious oversight on Activision's part to not allow users access to music they readily have on their hard drive, but they've done it so get ready for some serious disc-swapping. Hopefully, they can get around licensing issues, or whatever reason it may be, for future titles as re-downloading songs and disc-swapping will be a sure fire way to irk more than a few gamers.

The following is GH: Aerosmith's confirmed track listing for the game:
